Pavel Emelyanov suggested a discussion of checkpoint-restart, in particular, the newer less-intrusive “checkpoint-restore in userspace” (CRIU) approach. CRIU replaces the earlier and more intrusive in-kernel approach that was rejected a few years ago. The kernel features required by CRIU have been merged, and the first stable release of the userspace portions are expected this coming October.
