Abstract:
This is a bibliography of publications in the journal Computing (CODEN CMPTA2, ISSN 0010-485X (printed version), 1436-5057 (electronic version)), published by Springer Wien.
Keywords:

Author Comments:
This publisher is completely economically independent of Springer-Verlag Berlin / Heidelberg, although the two collaborate; see the corporate history page on the World Wide Web at http://www.springer.at/springer.py?Page=60&Key=326 for details. Publication of Computing began with volume 1, number 1, in 1966. The journal was published quarterly through 1977, and eight times yearly from 1978. Coverage should be complete for volume 4 (1968) to date. However, my local academic library has only volumes 22 to date, and despite extensive database searching, no further coverage of earlier volumes seems to be available in the databases I used, so I have been unable to repair the gaps in coverage of volumes 1–3. A page gap analysis given later in this file suggests that there are about 124 articles missing for those volumes. A big thanks goes to Jon Rokne for supplying photocopies of tables of contents of early volumes, which helped significantly in filling in holes, and resolving discrepancies. The journal Computing should not be confused with a weekly magazine of the same name published by Haymarket Publishing Group in London, England (ISSN 0144-3097), starting with Volume 8, number 1 in 1980. The journal has been variously known as
Computing: Archives for Informatics and Numerical Computation
Computing: Archiv fuer informatik und numerik
Computing: Archiv fuer Elektonische Rechnen
Computing: Archives for Scientific Computing
Computing (Vienna/New York) Computing (Wien/New York)
This bibliography also includes complete coverage of all entries for a companion series, Computing Supplementum (CODEN COSPDM, ISSN 0344-8029), which appears irregularly, and consists of 13 volumes of conference proceedings up to 1999. The intent of the series is to provide comprehensive coverage of a particular area of computing within a single volume, but with no particular relationship between volumes. The publisher has a World Wide Web site for the journal at http://www.springer.at/springer.py?Page=45&Key=340&cat=3&id_journal=8 with coverage for volumes 54 (1995) – 61 (1998). Springer-Verlag (Berlin / Heidelberg) has a Web site at http://link.springer.de/link/service/journals/00607/index.htm As of October 1999, that site only has tables of contents for the journal volumes of 1999. Article abstracts are publicly readable; article full text access may require an institutional or individual subscription. This journal is unusual in that some volumes span two years, some issues are assigned two or more consecutive issue numbers, and no months are associated with any issue numbers. Citations in journal articles to others in the same journal normally do not include issue numbers. Some 466 publications (20% of the coverage at version 1.03) are in German, but English translations are supplied for their titles. In later issues, the journal covers and title pages include English title translations and abstracts for articles in German, and German title translations and abstracts for articles in English. The author of this bibliography will be grateful for corrections and improved translations of early titles from readers of this file. The Compendex database, the source of some of the data for some of the entries in this bibliography, has the highly unfortunate practice of uppercasing article titles and discarding accents; these have been laboriously repaired, but there are almost certainly lettercase errors in some of the German titles. Most databases convert original umlaut-[aou] to [ae,oe,ue]; the original umlaut forms have been restored in most cases, but some omissions certainly remain, particularly in author names. Cross-references are supplied for all addenda, comments, corrigenda, errata, and remarks, so that citing one will automatically provide citations of the others. This bibliography was prepared by merging data from the TeX Users Group bibliography archive, the BibNet Project archive, the Compendex database, the OCLC Contents1st database, the huge Karlsruhe computer science bibliography archive, the MathSciNet database, and the journal Web pages. Questionable values have been resolved by searches in the Zentrallblat fuer Mathematik database, and by consulting original journal issues.
